& Office of Patent Counsel A traditional paper notebook has several disadvantages: Too often the notebook is not maintained, or is maintained improperly for legal purposes. Computer-based data must be printed out and attached to the notebook in paper format. Data in the notebook is not easily indexed or searched. Work in the Laboratory is duplicated and collaborative opportunities are lost. Is an Electronic Laboratory Notebook (ELN) a viable tool to address any or all of these issues? Problem Statement
