IB Assessment External assessment – Paper 1 – 45 marks – 1 hour (30% weighting) – Paper 2 – 65 marks – 2 hours (50 weighting) Internal assessment – 20 % weighting

Internal assessment Planning - Pl Data collection and processing – DCP Discussion, evaluation and conclusion – DEC Personal skills – PS

Internal assessment Pl x 2 = 12 DCP x 2 = 12 DEC x 2 = 12 PS x 1 = 6 Total = 42 This is then scaled to give a total out of 20%.

IA rules The IAs should be typed (except for graphs). A paper copy should be handed into the Science Office (where you must sign). An electronic copy must also be submitted. Each IA needs a signed cover sheet paper clipped to the front. Your name and cohort should be in a header on every page, the pages numbered and the title should be on the first page. A copy of the instruction sheet must be included with the paper copy handed in. If handed in late (without a pre-arranged extension) the IA will not be returned to you for improvements.

IA deadlines You will have lesson time for IAs only in Year 12 and some will be set as Homework. You must have 2 of each category (Pl, DCP, DEC) submitted by the summer. If you have not, parents will be informed and compulsory after-school sessions will need to be attended. You may submit further IAs to improve your result before Christmas in Year 13. No IAs may be submitted after Christmas Year 13.

Lab files You will need to purchase an A4 file with dividers. This should be brought to every lesson. In this you will keep your introduction booklet and your copy of the syllabus. Any sheets you are given can be kept in this file in the appropriate topic section. Home works returned to you marked should be kept in this folder in the appropriate topic section.
