Michael Martin - Cert IV - Codes and Standards 2012 History Historically been regulated through separate legislative and administrative arrangements – from P12 While regulated separately, building and plumbing regulation are inherently linked, with both setting requirements for on-site construction of buildings Now in its latest form, we still focus as builders on the BCA component Michael Martin - Cert IV - Codes and Standards 2012

Michael Martin - Cert IV - Codes and Standards 2012 The BCA In 1980 agreements to the formation of the Australian Building Regulations Coordinating Council – from P 14 led to the production of the first edition of the Building Code of Australia (BCA) in 1988 further refined and a new edition was released in 1990 in April 1994 to establish the Australian Building Codes Board One of the first tasks of the ABCB was to convert the BCA into a more fully performance-based document.  In 2003 an annual amendment cycle with a date of operation from 1 May each year. From 2004 was established… hence edn. 2004, 2005 and so on Michael Martin - Cert IV - Codes and Standards 2012

Michael Martin - Cert IV - Codes and Standards 2012 The BCA – What is it ? is Volumes One and Two of the National Construction Code (NCC) The goal - is to enable the achievement of nationally consistent, minimum necessary standards of relevant, health, safety (including structural safety and safety from fire), amenity and sustainability objectives efficiently.  Michael Martin - Cert IV - Codes and Standards 2012

Michael Martin - Cert IV - Codes and Standards 2012 What it Covers Technical provisions for the design and construction of buildings and other structures Covering items such as: fire resistance access and egress services and equipment energy efficiency certain aspects of health and amenity.
