VOCAB Triangular Trade

Abolitionist, admiralty courts, bond, custom officers, duty, export, import, indigo. Money that must be put up in advance as a guarantee. A person who worked to end slavery and the slave trade. Officials who collected duties or taxes on trading goods. A product brought into a country for sale. Special courts that were set up by the British to enforce the Navigation Acts. A blue dye obtained from plants. A product grown or manufactured in one country and sold to another country. A tax paid on goods brought into a country.

Manufactured goods, Mercantilism, Middle Passage, molasses, naval stores, Navigation Acts, smuggle, writs of assistance. Atlantic slave trade. Special search warrants issued by the British government that allowed officials to search for smuggled goods without restrictions. To illegally take goods into or out of a country in order to avoid paying a duty. Products made from raw materials by hand or machinery. A thick syrup separated from sugar cane in the making of sugar. An economic system in which nations increase their wealth and power by establishing a favorable balance of trade. A series of laws passed by Parliament, beginning in 1651, to ensure that England made money from its colonies’ trade. Tar obtained from pine trees that was used to caulk seams of wooden ships to prevent leaks and timber used in building wooden sailing ships.
