Mood induction How can researchers induce mood?mood Velten-technique: Reading of positive or negative sentences in order to induce a mood Funny versus sad film clips (or neutral documentaries as control condition) Joyful versus sad music Participant has to give a detailed description of a joyful or sad experience from his or her own life False positive or negative feedback to a test Little gifts © POSbase 2003Contributor

Mood induction There are overt and covert mood inductions: In overt mood inductions, the participants know that they have to get into a certain mood; in covert mood inductions, participants do not know anything about mood induction. © POSbase 2003

Mood induction The Velten technique is an overt mood induction; participants are told to read positive sentences in order to get into a positive mood or negative sentences in order to get into a negative mood. © POSbase 2003 Music can be used as overt or covert mood induction techniques; it is known that music has a better effect if it is used as overt mood induction. Film clips, describing life events, false feedback and little gifts are normally used as covert mood induction techniques.
