Engaging with the statutory sector: voluntary sector organisations working in mental health Emerging Health Structures 20 th March 2012 Benedict Leigh (Chief Executive, Restore)

Why bother to engage?

We don’t need over- complicated, bureaucratic, constricting, talking shops – we just want to get on with our job.

We don’t need un- systematic, random, un- evidenced, unfair, interfering do-gooders– we just want to get on with our job.

But different strengths

Focus and passion & Whole population approach

Enthusiasm & Systemisation

Quick to start & Easy to scale

Why bother to engage!

Because we just want to do our job and we can’t do it alone.

Because we can learn from each other.

Because we can make a difference.

How to do it well.

Listen

Speak

Fail

Celebrate

What this is all about.

The same goal; different contexts Working together matters Honest failure matters
