Lord Byron She walks in a beauty. She walks in beauty, like the night Of cloudless climes and starry skies; And all that's best of dark and bright Meet in her aspect and her eyes: Thus mellowed to that tender light Which heaven to gaudy day denies. One shade the more, one ray the less, Had half impaired the nameless grace Which waves in every raven tress, Or softly lightens o'er her face; Where thoughts serenely sweet express How pure, how dear their dwelling-place. And on that cheek, and o'er that brow, So soft, so calm, yet eloquent, The smiles that win, the tints that glow, But tell of days in goodness spent, A mind at peace with all below, A heart whose love is innocent!

Cohesion: 1 nd paragraph: Cohesion: 1 nd paragraph: She(1) walks in a beauty, like the night Of cloudless climes and (2) starry skies; And(3) all that's (4) best of dark and(5) bright Meet in her (6) aspect and (7) her (8) eyes: Thus (9) mellowed to (10) that tender light Which (11) heaven to (12) gaudy day denies. 1. General word 2. linker 3.linker 4. reference (to all) 5. linker 6. Ellipsis (her) 7. linker 8. ellipsis (her) 9. reference 10. back reference ( to that tender light) 11. substitution (to light) 12. back reference ( to gaudy day denies) 1. Ellipsis (her) 7. linker 8. ellipsis (her) 9. reference 10. back reference ( to that tender light) 11. substitution (to light) 12. back reference ( to gaudy day denies)

Coherence Coherence One dollar and eighty-seven cents It was all Three times Della counted it. Instigates the moral reflection Look at the home Life is made up of sobs, sniffles, and smiles, with sniffles predominating At $8 per week Next day would be Christmas There was clearly nothing to do Lookout for the mendicancy squad She is subsiding from the first stage to the second Della finished her cry She had only $1.87. Present for Jim She whirled from the window Her eyes were shining brilliantly She fluttered out the door and down the stairs to the street.

2 nd Model of a linear thematic progression: 1 st paragraph: She walks in beauty, like the night Of cloudless climes and starry skies; And all that's best of dark and bright Meet in her aspect and her eyes: Thus mellowed to that tender light Which heaven to gaudy day denies. T1 (she)  R1(walks in ashe fluttered beauty) T2 (all that’s best )  R2(meet) T3(tender light)  R3(thus mellowed ) T4(which heaven)  R4 ( to gaudy day denies) T1 (she)  R1(walks in ashe fluttered beauty) T2 (all that’s best )  R2(meet) T3(tender light)  R3(thus mellowed ) T4(which heaven)  R4 ( to gaudy day denies)

Intertextuality: 1.“Life is made up of sobs, sniffles, and smilesm with sniffles predominating” – the quote means that life its ups and downs. The quote leads the reader to believe that in Della’s life the sniffles are what she deals with in her day to day. 2. “No mortal finger could coax a ring” – quote – it means that nobody could ever make the button ring. 3. “Flung to the breeze” – quote, idioma. To be thrown to the wind that means into some situation. 4. “Queen of Sheba ” –allusion. From Bible. It’s legend person who visited King Solomon. In Jewish tradition Sheba was alternately the Queen of Egypt and Ethiopia. 5. “ King Solomon” – allusion. From Bible. A king of Israel and the son of David.
