Animals of Australia

The koala The koala, herbivore marsupial, is the mammal the most important of Austalia with the kangaroo. It’s a species which drink little because it hydrates with leaves of Eucalyptus. It’s a animal of the night which spends its life in the trees.

The Kangaroo The kangaroo belongs to the class of the marsupials, it’s an agressive mammal. There are lots of kangaroos in Australia. There are several species of kangaroos. They can jump more nine meters long in only one jump. They are night animals, they are herbivorous and feed of plants. The animal shelter under the trees and in the caves.

The Devil of Tasmania The Tasmanian Devil is the biggest carnivore marsupial in Australia since the tiger of Tasmania has been extinguished. The devil of Tasmania hunts in group and feeds of little animals, of kangaroos, of birds, of lizards … It is carnivore, cannibal, and vulture. It is the mammal with the most powerful jaw.

The Wombat The wombat is very common and only exists in Australia. There are lots of them in the South East of Australia, in New South Wales and in Tasmania. The wombat loves above all grass, mushroom, barks. He lives up to five years and is very solitary.

The birds of Australia In Australia there are 834 species of birds, but 350 only live in Australia, and the other ones are dying. There are some big and young birds, some totally different species. There are very coloured. Some species also exists in France.

The Emu The Emu is a big bird which looks like the ostrich. This bird is the second biggest of the world. It measures from 1.50 to 1.80m high and weighs from 56 to 68 kg.

Crocodiles The crocodile lives along the rivers of northem of Australia, between Queensland, Northen territory and westhern Australia. In Austalia there are 2 spieces of crocodiles : the saltwater crocodile and the crocodile Johnson. The biggest crocodile measures approximately 7 meters and 1 tone.

The big white shark The big white shark lives in the australian sea. It’s very famous because it’s dangerous ; when it’s along the beach All the people get very scared. This shark eats All sort of fishes and sometimes men !

Venomous fishes In the Great Barrier Reef there are some small fishes and venomous fishes too. There are eleven species of venomous fishes. The most dangerous is the Baracouda. The Baracouda is the biggest venomous fishes in the Great Barrier Reef.

Spiders The Black Widow Redback There is a great variety of spiders ( 135 differents species ) Many are deadly. We can recognize the black widow redback it by its red stripe on the back and its black body. The male is smaller than the female. This spider is cannibal. It is considered one of the most dangerous spiders in Australia.

Snakes The Death Adder There are differents species of very deadly snakes in Australia. This one is one of the most deadly snakes in Australia. We find it in deserts and along the coast of Queensland.
