The Great Barrier Reef By: Isaac Colliver And Dustyn Stevens

Where are the worlds coral reefs? Coral Reefs touch every single continent except for Antarctica Most of them are in between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn

What about the Great Barrier Reef? The Great Barrier Reef is a coral reef It is the worlds largest coral reef

What's the Climate underwater? The Climate in The great barrier reef varies in the north and south, or the sub-tropical and tropical regions There is only a wet and dry season rather than seasonal weather Temperatures in the wet season it can get up to 32 degrees Celsius, or 90 degrees Fahrenheit Temperatures in the dry season it can be as low as 20 degrees Celsius, or 68 degrees Fahrenheit Although not often, Cyclones can occur above the reef

Producers Zooxanthellae Corraline algae Phytoplankton Seaweed Marine algae

Consumers Primary consumers- Coral polyps, Sea urchins Secondary consumers- Parrot fish, Surgeon fish Tertiary Consumers- Reef Shark

Natural Capital Each year coral reefs generate 375 Billion Dollars. Tourism is very popular in the coral reef and creates thousands of jobs Plants in coral reefs are used for medical research

Human Effects Each year the Great barrier reef is getting smaller and smaller due to human involvement Activities such as Coastal Development, Agriculture, Aquaculture, Mining and industry, and Shipping have ravished the great barrier reef’s natural ecosystems. Coral Bleaching and sediment deposits are signs that humans destroying the reef through pollution and over-exploitation.

What's being done A fishing ban has been added to over 1/3 of the great barrier reef. Recycling has been increased in order to keep pollution low.
