Governor Scott & State Employees TallahasseeVoices is a pro bono internet survey panel sponsored by Kerr & Downs Research, which is solely responsible for information contained within TallahasseeVoices’ reports. Survey was conducted in April 2011 with 523 panel members responding. Local citizens reject Governor Scott’s proposals Leon County residents oppose everything Governor Scott has proposed for state employees. – Since Tallahassee is a government town, it is not surprising that citizens reject Scott’s proposals to reduce state employee benefits, yet even citizens who do not work for state government reject all of Scott’s proposals except the one that requires state employees to contribute 5% toward their retirement benefits.

Local citizens reject Governor Scott’s proposals 54% of citizens oppose Scott’s plan to have state employees pay 5% toward their retirement; 56% of private employees support this proposal. 61% of citizens oppose ending DROP; 72% of state employees oppose ending DROP. 78% of citizens oppose capping state employees’ health insurance contributions at $5,000 annually; 87% of state employees oppose it. 70% of citizens oppose eliminating 8,600 state jobs; 75% of state employees oppose it.

Citizens’ reactions to Scott’s proposals 76% of local citizens say state employees are getting unfairly punished – they haven’t had a raise since 2006, insurance premiums have been increasing, and now Governor Scott is proposing more hardships; 83% of state employees feel this way. 53% of citizens believe Tallahassee’s economy will suffer because of Scott’s proposals; 66% of state employees feel this way.

Governor Scott has made several proposals that, if enacted by the Legislature, will affect State of Florida employees. Now, State employees pay nothing into their retirement system. Scott proposes that State employees pay 5% of the contributions into their retirement system. Do you support or oppose State employees paying 5% of the contributions into their retirement system?

Governor Scott proposes to end the Deferred Retirement Option Program (DROP), which permits State employees to retire and then work for up to five more years and draw their full pay plus their retirement benefits. Do you support or oppose Scott’s proposal to end DROP?
