Drinks Bottle Using CREO DEVELOPMENT

Some basic actions in CREO Scroll back and forth to zoom. Hold shift + middle mouse button then drag the mouse to move around your design. Hold down middle mouse button and move mouse around to turn your drawing around to see it from different angles. Click Middle mouse button/ scroll wheel to confirm changes.

Select the front work plane

2. 1. Then click sketch view to see it from the front view Click sketch (top of page)

2. Then click and drag a rectangular shape roughly the shape of your bottle. Click left mouse button to complete the rectangle, then click the middle mouse button to confirm, it should fill with colour and show dimensions. Click rectangle tool. 1.

2. Do the same for the width, and click middle mouse button to confirm. 1. Double click the dimension that runs top to bottom and give it a new size (use measurements from a bottle you have looked at). Click middle mouse button to confirm.

Click ok button to confirm your sketch is correct, you need to do this each time you make a sketch and want to add a feature to it.

Click on the revolve feature Click on the revolve feature. This is used to make your shape into a 3D cylinder. 2. Click on the line you will revolve the shape around –the right vertical line of your rectangle. 1. It will then automatically make a cylinder from your shape. Click and hold the middle button and drag a bit to see the shape in 3D. 3.

It will change colour Click the green tick to apply the revolve settings to your sketch.

Edit the shape to make the top of the bottle (screw thread section)

This menu shows all of your work planes, sketches and features and each one can be edited if needed. Right click on the sketch in the left hand menu. And click ‘edit definition’.

2. 3. 1. It will change back to the 2D sketch so you can edit it. Click sketch view again so you can see the rectangle from a front view. 3. 1. Click on the line chain tool ready to start drawing the top of the bottle. Then scroll in on the top of the rectangle to zoom in.

1. 2. Double click the dimensions and change them to an appropriate size, middle click to confirm dimensions( use the bottle measurements you took to inform your decisions). Click to attach the line to the rectangle and drawn a line up across and down to make the top of the bottle. Click middle mouse button twice to finish the line and reveal the dimensions.

2. Use the delete segment tool again to delete all of the centre lines of the bottle. (it needs to be one continuous line). So ... 3. 1. Re-draw the line with the line tool to make one complete centre line, then click the middle mouse button twice to confirm. Click on the delete segment tool and click on the line between the two rectangles to make an outline shape, click the middle mouse button to confirm. It should fill with colour again if it is a closed shape. 4.

Click on the centreline tool. Click and drag the line on the centre of the bottle until the centreline is vertical and then left click to position the line. It should leave a vertical dotted line.

Click the ok button again to confirm the changes you have made. 1. 2. Click the revolve button again and it should apply the changes you made to give a very basic bottle shape. A small cylinder on top of a bigger cylinder. Click the ok button again to confirm the revolve. 3.

Editing the shape of the bottle

1. Right click the sketch again and select the ‘edit definition’ option again. 2. Click sketch view to view it from the front again.

2. Click to attach to the side of the bottle then draw curves to the shape you want to create. 1. You can use the spline tool to change the shape of the side of the bottle. Middle mouse click to complete the line..

3. Click the middle button when finished to see if the shape fills. if it does not check to see if the shape has any more lines that need deleting or if there are any gaps in the shape. 1. Start using the delete segment tool to delete the parts of the bottle you no longer need. Zoom in on the lines by scrolling the mouse to delete all of the unwanted lines. Click the ok button to confirm the changes and view them in 3D. 2.

You should have something a bit like this now, the shape depends on the design you are developing.

Edit screw thread section to add the thread and seal.

2. 1. Click the sketch view again to view the shape from the front Start by right clicking on the sketch to ‘edit definition’ again.

1. 2. 3. Zoom in on the top section of the bottle. (scroll mouse) Use the line tool to draw the different shapes for the screw thread and the section on which the seal will rest. Use the rectangle tool to make the seal, leave a gap between the bottle and the seal. 3.

1. Use delete segment tool to delete parts of the drawing that are not needed. 2. Middle click to confirm the check the drawing fills and is correct.

Click the green tick to confirm your changes to the sketch. 1. 3. I edited the shape slightly by moving parts of the sketch. 2. If you want to change the screw thread or shape of the bottle, just right click on the sketch again and click on ‘edit definition’. Make the changes and click the green tick to view the changes again.

Round edges tool

1. 2. 3. Select the round edges tool.. Click on an edge you want to add round edges to. 3. Use the little white boxes to drag the rounded corners to a radius you are happy with .

You can also put in a specific radius for the rounded edge in the box at the top of the screen. 1. 2. Click green tick to complete the action.

Repeat for any other edges that may need rounding off. This is personal choice, it could take place as part of the development later on.

Shelling the bottle (to make it hollow)

1. 2. 3. Left Click on the shell tool Left Click on the top of the bottle, we will shell it from here. 3. Select a thickness for the bottle, it would not let me go higher than 0.3mm. Start at 1.00mm and reduce if it doesn't work. Centre click to check it works then Click green tick when happy.

The bottle should now be hollow. All of your sketches and features appear in this menu. Any of them can be edited by using the edit definition function (right click on the sketch or feature), you can also delete them by right clicking on them and selecting the delete action.
