Charles Darwin theory of evolution By Amy Crossland

What is evolution? Evolution is what scientists call the gradual change of one kind of living thing into another. It happens very, very slowly. The first bacteria were tiny single cells. It took more than 2,500 million years for the earliest- known larger creatures, with bodies made up of many cells, to evolve.

Charles Darwin Charles Darwin was a naturalist and biologist. He was born in 1809, in Shrewsbury and died in 1882 in London. He was best known for his Theory of Evolution to explain biological change. This theory caused controversy at the time, as it still does today, with many people believing more in Creationism – the religious view that all of nature was created by God – despite DNA studies proving Charles Darwin’s Theory in the years since his death.

What Charles Darwin thought evolution is. Charles Darwin travelled to many places. This caused many important questions. Other naturalists believed that most creatures came at the start of the planet, or came to grow in time. Both theories agree that, whether it’s one animal changing into another or the appearance of separate new animals, that it takes a very long time. Darwin, however realised similarities between different species all over the globe.

Ape to man/woman. Charles Darwin put forward the idea that small changes, millions of year, created new creatures from old. In his study of apes, he found many similarities to humans, such as the shape of the skull and jaw, the way the teeth are arranged and the family/social structure, which lead him to believe that the human race was descended from apes who evolved to walk upright.
