Capacity Building 2 Capacity Building not a linear process It is a complex process that cannot be improved by simply putting all the inputs together It is considered as an emergent property that develops from a complex interplay of different variables Thus remains uncertain and unpredictable especially if it is to be measured or assessed as an influence of an external intervention

Capacity Building in South Asia South Asia grappled with problem of huge population & low standard of living Demand for skills and capacities in water sector Water Issues –Insecurity & poor quality leading to several issues such as impact on health, socio-economic development, conflict internal as well regional etc. Solutions need to be sought locally as well as with regional perspective Capacity building an important tool to address these issues 3

The consortia.. 4 Objective is to bring new knowledge to address the pressing problems in the water sector in South Asia through  education  research  Advocacy With an interdisciplinary approach

-SaciWATERs- Capnet Network is partnership towards capacity building in IWRM across the South Asia region. -It comprises of autonomous regional and national institutions and individuals committed to capacity building in the water sector -Regular training programs focusing on water, climate change, gender and policy relevant issues 11 Ongoing programs

Arsenic Knowledge Network 12 Knowledge Management initiative to address the issue of arsenic in ground water Provides platform to exchange ideas, information and knowledge amongst experts and share it with other stakeholders Helps fill in gaps in research and implementation Subcontinental in scope Ongoing programs

South Asian – open access, peer reviewed e- journal that provides platform for young students, researchers, academicians and activists to publish and disseminate knowledge 13 Ongoing programs
