4 Moringa oleifera The leaves are considered to offer great potential for those who are nutritionally at risk and may be regarded as a protein and calcium supplement Moringa seeds yield about 40% of a non- drying oil, known as Ben Oil, used in the arts and for lubricating watches and other delicate machinery. The oil is clear, sweet and odorless, It also is edible and useful in the manufacture of perfumes and hairdressings.

7 Kakute stove One of Pamoja’s Tanzanian partner organizations, Kakute Ltd, a private sector manufacturing and marketing firm, recently developed a wick-type liquid fuel stove that works very well with Moringa oil. It can be fabricated in local blacksmith shops and will sell in Africa for about US$5. This is competitive with the stoves used to burn charcoal and will allow it to penetrate the market in a way that a more expensive stove would not.

9 Kakute lamp Kakute has also developed an oil- burning lamp that is a huge improvement over a wood fire for lighting. Since it is mostly made from salvaged materials, it can be sold for about US$1. This will make one of the most basic necessities affordable for the first time to millions of people.
