Vilnius University: facts and figures One of the oldest and most famous establishments of higher education in Eastern and Central Europe, founded in faculties, 7 institutes, 4 study and research centers, the oldest Library in Lithuania, 2 university hospital­s, an Astronomical Observatory, a Botanical Garden, a Centre of Information Technology Development,­ and St. John's C­hurch. Vilnius University Library: facts and figures (2013) Founded: CL- 1570; SCIC – 2013; 5,492,177 items; 536,769 check-outs from the printed collection; subscribed to 56 databases; 513,111 times of access to DB; users were provided with 933,180 FT articles from DB; readers: 31,865; the number of visits to the Library in 2013 exceeded one million for the first time in it’s history - 1,055,874 visits.

National Open Access Scholarly Communication and Information Centre

SCIC and Saulėtekis (Sunrise) Valley State policy on scientific researches: the consolidation of sciences and business; integration of researches, studies, and business bases on newest technological achievements 5 research valleys in Lithuania: 2 in Vilnius, 2 in Kaunas, 1 in Klaipėda. Saulėtekis (Sunrise) Valley: SCIC - the first building and integral part of Saulėtekis valley, Centre of Physical Sciences and Technology, Centre of Life Sciences 4 branch of research are planed to be developed in Vilnius Saulėtekis valley: laser and light technologies; material studies and nanotechnology; physics of semiconductors, electronic and organic electronic; civil engineering.

Purpose of the presentation – to overlook in short the Library activities in the implementation of 1, 2, 3 strategic goals of Vilnius University.

Implementing strategic goals for science and studies we offer (1): Open stacks (384,806 items); 56 databases; 24/7 services (SCIC); information resources on a certain field of science concentrated in one place, 1,528 study spaces; Rooms for individual work; rooms for group work; seminar rooms equipped with a wide range of technologies; special software in IT laboratories of the SCIC; conference hall (with possibility to organize distance meetings, presentations, learning, conferences, as well as record them); research activities in scientometrics/bibliometrics and field of cultural heritage.

Implementing strategic goals of VU we are active partners and participants in projects (1): The Consortium of the Lithuanian Academic Libraries for the Maintenance and Development of an Information Infrastructure for Scientific research and Studies (LABIIMSPPK); 47 members; VU Library as an administrative institution of the Consortium; The LITMIS programme for 2013–2015, regarding the development of Lithuanian science and studies information infrastructure Lithuanian academic online library information system eLABa - a joint information system of Lithuanian research and studies electronic documents, functioning as national Open Access Repository. Since 2013 – EU project “Creation and development of eLABa integral services”.

Implementing strategic goals of VU we are active partners and participants in projects (2): From project National Open Access Research Data Archive (in Lit. MIDAS); lead institution – Vilnius University. Project partner – Vilnius University Hospital Santariškių Klinikos (Santariskes Clinics). Project participants: 13 institutions of science and studies and medical institutions. Project funded by EU Structural Funds and national budget (almost 15 mln. Lt (~4, 34 mln. Eur). Purpose - the infrastructure of national research data archive
