Aflatoun: Child Social & Financial Education (CSFE) Aflatoun as a Concept: Balanced Child Social & Financial Education (CSFE) concept to be social or financial entrepreneurs Aflatoun as a Programme: Fun, participatory education programme taken forward through partnership for children ages School wide savings clubs, activities Aflatoun as a Network: Programme is taken forward globally by over 53 NGO, private, and public sector partners in 20 countries. Network of children and public/private partners! “Savings are the building blocks for a better future.” HRH Princess Maxima of The Netherlands, Chair of Aflatoun 2008 Campaign Launch

Aflatoun & Where we are

Aflatoun Partnerships In March 2008, Aflatoun launched its Campaign to reach 1 million in 75 countries by 2010! Currently reaching 249,600 children in 20 countries globally…and growing. Aflatoun donors and partners include: UNICEF, E&Y, JPMorgan, CCF, Plan International, WSBI, Postbanks, MFIs, Dutch Central Bank and many others! “Aflatoun children in Uganda are changing their status and inspiring their teachers, parents by making small savings deposits at PostBank” Irene Mutumba, Director PEDN (Uganda implementing organization)

Aflatoun Partnerships & what we want 1.Curriculum Reform: Include CSFE concepts in national curricula and include CSFE in workstreams, World Bank’s EFA Fast Track Initiative, FFA, en route to final inclusion in core curriculum and national networks 2.Banking Reform: Promote Child Friendly Banking policies & services with banking world to facilitate access for all children to savings products & tools for early learning 3.Policy Reform: Recognition of the economic rights of children

Aflatoun Facts & Figures Aflatoun builds country networks through local partners (53) to sustainably reach our mission.

An Aflatoun Country Network The Aflatoun-Philippines Network “Aflatoun partner organizations in The Philippines have begun to come together and systematize efforts to bring Aflatoun's programme of social and financial empowerment to more children in the country.” Members are: The National Confederation of Cooperatives (NATCCO), Plan, Child Hope Asia, CCF, and Philippine Postal Savings Bank (PPSB). “Several meetings to iron out organizational details and identify areas of collaboration and sharing took place. May 28 the Aflatoun partners supported its newest partner, PPSB, by attending the launch of its Financial Literacy project. September 2008 PPSD Bank launched a Child Friendly Banking partnership with the network to provide savings accounts for Aflatoun children. NATCCO is currently serving as head of Aflatoun-Philippines.” – Aflatoun Talk!, June 2008

Over two-third of Aflatoun’s programmes are endorsed by national and local education authorities For sustainability and integration of 5 Core Elements, Aflatoun Programmes match learning with day to day school curricula (easier for teachers too) Aflatoun’s CSFE programme also helps children overcome barriers to development (e.g. school fees.) A 12 year old girl from Kazo Summit School in Wakiso, Uganda notes: “I save my money so that it can help me in paying my school fees. My father doesn’t have enough money to pay my school fees, that is the only challenge I face.” Aflatoun & Education Authorities
