Collaborating with UVM: The Obligatory PowerPoint Slide Stack J. Greg Mackinnon - “Microsoft Guy,” SharePoint Wrangler

What is SharePoint? Windows SharePoint Services v3.0 Web-based collaboration toolkit ◦ Document Libraries (Office Docs, Pictures, “Wiki”) ◦ Lists (tasks, links, calendars, announcements, contacts, discussions, “spreadsheets”) ◦ Surveys ◦ “Web 2.0 Stuff” (Blogs and Wikis) ◦ Most anything else you make it

Why Use SharePoint? “Only a Browser is Required” tool (cross-platform, too!) Access your content from anywhere Secure – NetID authentication, granular access controls Powerful indexing/search features integration – -enabled lists/libraries and alerts Integration with MS Office Suite Tools arsenal: ◦ SharePoint Designer (Formerly FrontPage) ◦ Windows Live Writer ◦ MS Outlook 2007 ◦ MS InfoPath ◦ MS Groove

History of UVM Summer 2004 – SharePoint Services v2 setup as a “demo” Spring 2005 – CTL staff assist faculty in setting up project sites, thus making SharePoint “production” – Service usage increases slowly, with about 50 sites in active use. Jan 1, 2007 – sharepoint.uvm.edu upgraded to v3, usage triples in one year. Summer 2007 – RADEditor from telerik.com added to improve support for Firefox and Safari browsers Today – Over 200 sites created
