Researching Roanoke By Stephanie,Maya, and Gwen Dr.Reese’s Class I hope you learn a lot from this production.

What Country Founded Your Colony? The colony of Roanoke was established by England in 1585.

Britain founded Roanoke in 1585 in order to establish trade. Britain traded in Roanoke so they could all get money and food.

Where is your Colony The colony of Roanoke was founded in Outer Banks, North Carolina. It is no longer there.

Was the Colony Successful Roanoke was not successful. This colony was not because it disappeared and only lasted for 10 months.

Who Was the Leader Of the Colony The leader of the colony was Sir Richard Greenville. He was the leader when they first found Roanoke. There was another leader after Sir Richard Greenville, it was Ralph Lane.

The colonists of Roanoke did get along with the Indians because they traded together. They did not always get along. Colonists burnt the Indian village of Aquascogok in retaliation for the theft of a silver cup stolen by one of the Indians. That was not all-They also took them hostage!

What Happened to Your Colony? This colony of Roanoke disappeared. People have done research, hoping to find out what happened to it.

Five Interesting Facts In 1587, 117 English settlers dropped anchor off Roanoke Island on the coast of what now is north Carolina to find the empire’s first colony in the new world. In the latter part of June 1588,the Spanish governor at St.Augustine sent a packet boat northward to locate the English colony preparatory to an early attack on them. Three ships sailed from Plymouth to Virginia. They landed at Virginia on July 22, That was the second colony to be established at Roanoke.

Facts As they were trying to find the lost colony, people on ships anchored at Humoresques saw smoke rising on Roanoke Island, giving hope that colonists were still alive. But they did not find anyone. On August 8, Governor White, with Captain Stafford and 24 men, suddenly attacked the town of Dasamonquepeuc with fire and swords.
