Why Relay? To honor those who have lost the fight To celebrate survivors To support the caregivers To educate the community ACS

What is Relay? Opportunity to participate in the fight against cancer Open to everyone in a community –No age limit Is a community gathering rather than an athletic event –Don’t let the word Relay confuse you Overnight event where team members take turns walking or running the track –Cancer doesn’t sleep for a night, we don’t either ACS

How did Relay begin? May 1985, Dr. Gordy Klatt wanted to raise money for the American Cancer Society in Tacoma, Washington Raised $27,000 that year 1986 – 220 supporters on 19 teams joined Dr. Klatt in this overnight event

Victory lap for all survivors 1 st lap of the evening Cancer survivors from all over the community are encouraged to join us Team members cheer the survivors on to victory as they walk/run ACS

The Luminaria Ceremony Reminds us why we are at Relay White bags filled with sand & a candle represent those lives in the community we are here to honor and remember ACS

The Fight Back Ceremony Requires the involvement of the participants at the event Pledge to fight year round against all kinds of cancer ACS
