A-G In order to be eligible to attend any school in the University of California (UC) or the California State University (CSU) systems as a freshman, you must take certain classes in high school. These classes are known as the "A-G Subjects” A-G are also foundational courses for many schools nationwide, and community colleges You must get a "C" or better in each of these classes to count towards college So what are the A-G requirements?

A-G Requirement Video Found on Will only play on internet explorer due to issues help desk is aware of. Cut and paste into IE. Watch from 1:28-5:50

Let’s Review On next slide is the poster you should all be familiar with from seeing it in our iMiddle classrooms…it outlines A-G courses + additional requirements for any SDUSD high school

Class of 2018 & 2019 HS Graduation Requirements A-G SDUSD Grad Credit Requirements Minimum Requirements A) 4 credits (2 years) History/Social Science B) 8 credits (4 years) English C) 6 credits (3 years) Mathematics D) 4 credits (2 years) Laboratory Science E) 4 credits (2 years) World Language F) 2 credits (1 year) Visual and Performing Arts G) 2 credits (1 year) College Prep Electives Total: 30 credits A-G (30 credits) Plus o Gov’t (1 sem=1 credit) o Econ (1 sem=1 credit) o Science (1 year= 2 credits) o PE (2 years= 4 credits): can be satisfied through JROTC or a sport o Career-Technical Education or Other Electives (3 years= 6 credits) Total Credits=44

Graduating High School Meet all SDUSD Graduation Requirements o 44 credits o Minimum 2.0 gpa (C average) o Computer Proficiency o Pass the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE) Start taking in 10 th grade Test on 7-10 th grade material

What happens if I don’t meet these requirements? If you fail a class, you will need to retake it until you receive a passing grade. This repetition will often occur as an online recovery course (after school hours) or at adult education (night school, after hours); in addition to the regular work load you have CAHSEE: you have until 12 th grade to pass the parts of the exam you still need If you still do not meet requirements you will need to look into a “GED” or the General Education Development tests. Passing these tests will give you the equivalent to a hs diploma, but still require time and effort to study and pass. Better to put forth the effort and time to pass the class, and earn the credit, the FIRST time!!
