Remote Operated Small Arms Mount ROSAM Presented By: Nigel Wasil Approved for Public Release; Distribution Unlimited

What is the ROSAM? A remote operated, 2-axis stabilized small arms mount FLIR/CCDTV sighting systems Auto-Tracking function Look-up table for ballistic compensation Multiple weapon interfaces Directed by joy-stick, radar, or remote EO device (i.e. MARFLIR) What are some benefits of ROSAM? Operator inside craft, out of weather Greater accuracy, especially while on fast/dynamic platform Fewer rounds expended Fire cutouts enable small missiles (back-blast) Remote operation for unmanned vehicles Crew servable in event of electronic failure Interface with multiple small arms weapons Remote Operated Small Arms Mount

Approved for Public Release; Distribution Unlimited History of ROSAM? Stabilized GUA-19 Stabilized 25mm Early remote small arms testing Slaving remote mounts to radar and EO devices Integrating remote mounts to Integrated Radar Optical Surveillance Sighting System (IROS3) ROSAM IDIQ contract Remote Operated Small Arms Mount

Approved for Public Release; Distribution Unlimited Live Fire Testing The purpose of this testing was to verify the mounts could handle the payload and recoil of the M2HB, along with keeping accuracy. Four foot square target at 300 yards Fired 10 round bursts, 8 times Remote Operated Small Arms Mount

Approved for Public Release; Distribution Unlimited Lessons Learned During LFT Firing the weapon distorts the video image from the sighting systems. This will likely have negative affects to the auto- trackers. Overcome issues tuning the stabilization to compensate for the recoil of the weapon. Shorter bursts may be more effective than traditional crew served firing bursts. Remote Operated Small Arms Mount

Approved for Public Release; Distribution Unlimited Competitive Simulated Testing The purpose of this testing was to verify the mounts stabilization and auto-tracking was adequate in various sea states. Each vender mounted their system on a 6 degrees freedom of motion platform at NAWC TSD, Orlando. Each mount was tested with 13 different scenarios. Dispersion data was recorded from each scenario. Remote Operated Small Arms Mount

Approved for Public Release; Distribution Unlimited Lessons Learned During CST Stabilization isn ’ t everything, auto-tracking is very important. Systems that stabilize the sighting sensors, which send position commands to the weapon, seem to lag behind those that stabilize the whole system. Remote Operated Small Arms Mount
