Chester Law Courts Northgate

The Northgate is a classical arch designed by Thomas Harrison and built in It was commissioned by Earl Grosvenor when he was Mayor in

The Law Courts were built in the regency period. The buildings are mock Greek as the front for the Law Courts are in built in the style of an amphitheatre.

Chester Law Courts The main features of the courts which make it typically Regent is the ornate style of the building. This shown by the Ionian columns at the front of the building and also the ornate façade at the top. However the building still contains the Georgian features, such as the symmetry in the layout of the building.

Ornate façade at the top of the building Typically Regent details on the edgings of the building Ionian columns at front of building. These are more decorative than the Georgian Doric columns Notice the mimicking of the Classical period, Greek architecture in particular.
