Week 14 COMPILED BY AMY

King Edward III  He had 12 Children and 5 of his Sons grew to adulthood.  His Mom was the French Princess  He nicknamed all his boys after where they were born!  He made arranged marriages for them all with heiresses.  This family was wealthy beyond all belief.

Son #1 Edward the Black Prince  He and his wife were ruling over Aquitaine.  Their two boys were born in France  He died.  His boys were too young to rule the throne.  Nicknamed Edward of Woodstock

Son #3 Lionel of Antwerp, 1st Duke of Clarence  Born in Antwerp  He was mostly in Charge of Ireland.  He didn’t like it and move dback to England.  Married and had one little girl.  She was named Philippa.  Lionel went to Milan to get married, but died after the wedding feast.  He might have been poisoned by the father of the bride!  A famous author named Geoffrey Chaucer was once a page in Lionel’s house!

Son #4 John of Gaunt, 1st Duke of Lancaster  One of the Richest men to ever live.  16 th richest man in history.  He had land everywhere. He kept buying it.  He had a boy named Henry Bolingbroke Duke of Hereford.

King Richard II Little Richie  Became King at 10 years old.  The government was run by councils.  His uncle John of Gaunt helped him.

Henry Bollingbroke  Richard’s Cousin  Son of Uncle John  Had to flee to Scotland

Henry VI  1470 He returned to England to take back his throne  He was insane

Edward The IV  But Edward got the throne back!  He died in 1483  He had two sons  His Son Edward V would be the next king.  But he was only a child.

Richard, Duke of Gloucester  Uncle Richard declared himself regent (temporary ruler)  Just until Edward Reached adulthood to protect the throne.  He declared martial law and put the two boys into a tower for their safety.
