PROJECT REPORT MEMB 113 : Engineering Graphic and CAE Title: Full piston assembly Group members: Akmal Dzaki b. AliME Armia b. Noor RashidME Mohamad Awis b. Mohamad AkipME Wan Mohd Faisal b. Ab RazakME Section: 01A Date: 8 April 2005 Lecturer: Mr. Adzly Anuar

Description of the product Basically the full assembly of this piston is based on a Mitsubishi car which is a Gallant. These are a few information about the piston itself: Material: Aluminium alloy Weight: 650 grams Height: 220mm Bore: 88mm Stroke distance: 78mm Compression ratio: 10:1 This piston is designed for a low compression and a swirled type for high efficiency combustion. It can withstand high temperature because it is design for a turbo charge engine. It is made out of cast iron. In the piston head itself, there are three slots to fit the piston rings. The first two is called piston ring and the last one is called oil piston ring. All the piston rings are important but the second one is the most crucial. The reason why it is crucial is because it is the last layer of protection to prevent the engine oil to reach the combustion area. It also important to prevent the gasses due to combustion to flow downwards and into the engine block. Life span of the piston is about 200,000 to 300,000 kilometers depending on the piston rings.
