I.Kojouharov, GSI Motivation: to integrate all the “life supporting” features of AGATA/AGATA Demonstrator Infrastructure in one entity. Advantages: - Grounding. Integrating the HV-supply and its control and Preamplifier Power Supply within one system and deployment the digitizers at the same ground platform would improve the ground and therefore the noise immunity of the spectrometer. - Control. All the control features and their relationships are in the same domain, therefore enhanced reliability. - Design. Integrating everything in one structure would reduce the connections between the System and the outer world. - Flexibility and cost. The integration of the “life supporting” features in one system relieves the infrastructure requirements to the Host Laboratories, so that a minimal effort would be needed to adapt AD or the full array in a new environment. Subjected: - Germanium detector array and its infrastructure, the digitizer, the UPS, ancillary detectors, security systems etc. AGATA Week, GSI, Feb.2005Integral Detector Support System, I.Kojouharov, GSI

Autofill System Domain: - Number of channels: in groups of 4 - In/out control – CAN or PROFIBUS - Temperature readout – Pt100 - Cryogenic hardware based on LN2 valves ASCO ¼”, 24 VAC - Control of the LN2 valve of the terminal – variable voltage (Relay) - Terminal LN2 distributor based on ASCO ½”, 24 VAC - LN2 readout – current 0-20 mA (QUANTUM QCG 295) - Tank pressure readout – current 0-20 mA (WIKA S-10/S-11) - Tank operational pressure – 2 bar - Tank volume – 300 l. - Filling line: RILSAN tube + ARMAFLEX isolation, GSI – Bayonets (Phase-separator tip optionally) - Three-step protection (warning “warm”, forced fill “hot” and shut-off) - Flat panel + + SMS warning, pager optional. - Autonomous operation (no Ethernet connection needed) - Status Monitor including Computer status (if Net-connection available) AGATA Week, GSI, Feb.2005Integral Detector Support System, I.Kojouharov, GSI

HV-System Domain: - Number of channels: in groups of 4 - Type of the modules: monolithic, ISEG model foreseen - Ramp-up / Ramp-down minimal step – 1 V - Voltage Monitor – 1V resolution (if ISEG spec.) - Current Monitor – 1 nA resolution (if ISEG spec.) - Emergency shut-off (independent of Autofill) - Voltage, current and noise properties – ISEG specified - Data exchange standard – to be specified - Cryostats Board size and pinout – to be supplied by Detector Design Group AGATA Week, GSI, Feb.2005Integral Detector Support System, I.Kojouharov, GSI

Preamplifier Power Supply System: - Power V - 6 A - 12 V - 4 A - Noise – less than 2 mV pp - Each detector separate soft start (only hardware) - Current/Voltage protection (shut off all the voltages per channel). - Status monitor AGATA Week, GSI, Feb.2005Integral Detector Support System, I.Kojouharov, GSI

Temperature and UPS monitoring: - In/out control – CAN or PROFI bus controller (option) - Number of temperature monitoring channels: 4xPt100 - Number of output channels 4 (Relay 220 V/10A) and 4 (data) (option) - Reaction sequence – user defined (programmable) (option) - UPS monitoring - In case of power blackout – reaction sequence default / user defined - Other monitors – group of 4 channels – 2 voltage monitors (option) 0-10 V, 2 current monitors 0-20 mA, - Reaction sequence – user defined (option) AGATA Week, GSI, Feb.2005Integral Detector Support System, I.Kojouharov, GSI

GENERAL - Power: 220V / 50 Hz - Size: ” crates (without cryogenic assembly) - Weight: < 2-3 x 20 kg - Main Control Unit: embedded PC, CAN or PROFI bus card/compatibility is required - Ethernet: wireless - Features and status monitoring – via browser, no Internet or telnet control. AGATA Week, GSI, Feb.2005Integral Detector Support System, I.Kojouharov, GSI

Problems: - cooled helium – vacuum problems due to high penetration of the helium through the gaskets, losses of helium – cost? - Stirling engine – noise performance, cost? - X-COOLER - very realistic solution, reasonable cost (~6000$) and tested performance. Dedicated however only to POPTOP, under ORTEC copyright – license? For all of them: no time for reaction in case of malfunction – thermal reservoir. AOP AGATA Week, GSI, Feb.2005Integral Detector Support System, I.Kojouharov, GSI Options: - cooled helium mechanic cooling - X-COOLER (ORTEC) and Stirling engine use of LN2 free cooling.
