Using the Change Toolkit to Update the West Virginia Strategic Plan for Schools West Virginia Institutes for 21 st Century Leadership Spring Session 2008 David M. Quinn, Ph.D. University of Florida

 The Reinventing Education Change Toolkit, based on the work of Harvard Professor Rosabeth Moss Kanter, is a Web site created by IBM to help education professionals be more effective at leading and implementing change.  Created through the collaborative effort of Rosabeth Moss Kanter, IBM's Reinventing Education project, together with Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO), National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP), and National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP).  This presentation will show participants how to utilize several of the tools in the Toolkit to update their schools’ strategic plan.

 School leaders can use the Change Toolkit to learn about effective change strategies and to get customized feedback on their own situations and tailored change management advice.  The Change Toolkit also contains more than 30 diagnostic tools to assess organizational readiness and aptitude in change management, as well as real-life vignettes from educators who have been successful at creating substantial, lasting change.  The Change Toolkit provides a forum for online collaboration and discussion to enable teams to work together and share documents, “to do” lists, meeting minutes, and lessons learned.
