Micron Case Study ◦ Lessons Learned Roundtable
Background: Due to cost cutting during the migration from SP 2003 to MOSS, the new environment had move to a self-support model. ◦ Site Owner CBTs ◦ MOSS Resource Center ◦ Practice Sites ◦ Microsoft Online Resources
◦ Two CBT classes: Overview, Info Mgmt Policies Pro: Self-service, on-demand training Con: Enforcement left to Site Collection Admins ◦ Given more time and resources, could provide recorded overviews of the Resource Center, process, etc.
Central ‘Collaboration Portal’ for support ◦ ‘Get Started’ 7 steps on what you need to know (planning, learning, creating) ◦ Discussion Forum SP Discussion List Pre-populated during MOSS setup/development Easy to sign up for alerts (Micron very driven) Very successful
◦ Resource Library Major Microsoft resources Blogs Training videos Can get stale ◦ Site Owner Index New SCs must be approved/created Populated after creation Only SCAs/Owners can create sites under SCs Didn’t know who to contact for support/creating sub-sites Not well advertised
◦ Automated practice site request 4 different site-collection templates Auto-created on 15-minute timer job No production data allowed Auto-deleted after 30 days – Warning before deletion. Very well received – a bit of confusion in the beginning
Discussion Forum ◦ Content must be pre-populated ◦ Community must sign up for alerts (make it easy) ◦ Great resource for single item collaboration Community Presentations ◦ People need info on concepts/total solutions ◦ Need to capture/share knowledge sets ◦ Currently very sporadic Maintenance ◦ Changing policies ◦ Announcements ◦ Stale content
