Bases Because the old bases were wood and rotted out it was determined to make the new bases out of concrete. Alterations carpenters using special materials were able to create an extraordinary re-usable curved concrete form. Outside masons then poured and finished the bases. These new bases will be painted white when totally cured. The new bases will last for the next 50 years
