 C95 Local Irrigation Research Team: oEstablished a small research team (25 members). oAssign facilitator (TRF, RID).

 3 Major Problems: oIrrigation water Management. oRice production. oFarmer debt.

water Management  Many farmers could not get enough water when they need it.  Tertiary canals were poorly maintained, It was not clear who actually operate water between ditches.

Tool for discussion:  Hand draw map.  Farm plots colors shading.

 The working group has named itself as “Slow Train for Sustainable Development”  The methods of the project are the followings: Antecedent review Looking for the present situation

Sorting out the demand, the problems, the causes of problems, and the solution Discussion and take note

Interviewing by questionnaires Field surveying Participating in information analysis

Discussing in advantages, mistakes and solution Launching the local stage of discussion and taking turn to be leader of a stage Proceeding the improvement and operational solution in the area

 Conclusion of the conflict among farmers: oIntake structure sill was too high. oVegetation in canal block water flow. oSome ditches are broken. oSome ditches serves too large area.

 How to improve the situation: oLower the intake sill. oClean lateral canal and ditch. oRepair of broken ditch and concrete lining.

 How to improve the situation: oConstruct new intake. oAssign person to operate check structure. oImprove farm road along ditches. oEstablishment of Irrigation fund.

1. Building the research team which has a willingness to work for the community. 2. Learning the wisdom and knowledge components of local communities through participatory learning process. (hand draw maps/forum to discuss on data analysis, problems, cause and the way to solve the problems.)

3. Realizing problems on water usage for agriculture in the area of C 95 canal and understand others and public common interest. 4. Building process of leading to the changes of the community’s concept (learning to rely on themselves/engaged to propose their idea/ speak it out/find the way to solve the problems together.)

1. Owing to the local irrigation project, we have learned the ways of life of farmers in the irrigation area. 2. Insufficient knowledge and understanding on participation in community management. 3. Applied the local research process to the Farmers Participatory Irrigation to solve the problem.

4.The importance is to develop and strengthen water users’ group and RID staff on “Participatory Irrigation Management” in order to achieve the sustainable development. 5.Disseminating from place to place/generation to generation.
