WHAT IS CORAL’S SECRET OF SURVIVAL?

AROUND THE WORLD, IN WARM AND SHALLOW WATERS, CORAL REEFS ARE A DAZZLING DIVERSITY OF LIFE.

O° 20°30°

The structure of coral reefs consist of limestone formations or coral rocks built by millions of little animals known as coral polyps.

Sea Horse Jellyfish Angel Fish Lion FishClown FishCrab

DIVERS CARELESSLY TOUCH CORAL.

People throw waste in the water.

Takes many forms but generally causes damage to coral reefs by dirtying ocean water

Parrotfish and starfish eat coral

During very low tide coral is exposed to the sun and it dries up.

CLOWNFISH Clownfish are always found with sea anemones, which provide them with a home and protect them from enemies. Clownfish repays the sea anemone by chasing away its enemies, such as butterfly fish which love to eat sea anemones.

Medicines: Coral reef plants and animals are important sources of new medicines being developed to treat cancer, arthritis, heart disease, viruses etc. The value of coral to mankind

Recreation: Millions of scuba divers, snorklers, fisherman as well as tourists. visit coral reefs. Economies receive income from visitors to reefs through: diving Fishing trips hotels

A NATURAL STORM BARRIER A coral reef structure buffers shorelines against waves, storms and floods helping to prevent loss of life, property, damage and erosion.

Educate yourself about coral reefs and the creatures that support them. Support organisations that protect coral reefs. Be a wastewater crusader. Make sure the sewerage from your boat and home is treated. Don’t use chemically enhanced pesticides and fertilizers. Volunteer for a reef cleanup. If you dive, don’t touch! SPREAD THE WORD! Protect our coral!

WHAT IS CORAL’S SECRET OF SURVIVAL? CORAL’S SECRET OF SURVIVAL IS ITS PARTNERSHIP WITH SEA CREATURES AND BOTH NEED TO BE PROTECTED FROM HUMAN DESTRUCTION.
