9/06/13 Ninth Day of School Learning Goal: I will be able to identify the steps in the Scientific Method of a real-world problem. Due Today: Signed Quiz Evening Assignment: 1)Review for Scientific Method Quiz 2)Have a fun weekend!
Do Now Hypothesis on the dying coral mystery Desertification is contributing to more dust storms in Africa. The dust is carrying spores of the soil fungus, Aspergillus, across the Atlantic Ocean on the trade winds to the Caribbean where Aspergillus settling on and killing the coral. Copy & answer the following… What data (evidence) supports the scientists hypothesis?
Do Now Hypothesis on the dying coral mystery Desertification is contributing to more dust storms in Africa. The African dust is carrying spores of the soil fungus, Aspergillus, across the Atlantic Ocean on the trade winds to the Caribbean where Aspergillus is settling on and killing the coral. Evidence: 1)Coral samples showed a fungus on all diseased coral 2)DNA test confirmed fungus was Aspergillus 3)Satellite pictures showed dust coming from Africa on trade winds 4)Air samples contains Aspergillus spores and African dust. 5)Core samples should that African Dust arrived in the same years as the coral disease was very bad.
Scientific Method Adapted from Identify Problem Do Background Research Make a Hypothesis Design an Experiment Collect Data (observations) Analyze Results/Make Conclusions Communicate Results Make Observations Steps #1 & 2 are combined on your foldable. So are steps # 3 & 4.
Using the Scientific Method Video: Dying Coral Mystery Watch the following video to view how scientists use the scientific method to investigate a real-world problem: Use the questions handed to you to jot down notes about what is happening with the Dust Busting video.
Completing your foldable 1. Use your questions from the review guide to add information from the Dust Busting Video to the right inside page of your foldable. 2.Be sure each label fits the description of what the scientists are doing. 3.Completed foldable due by Monday 9/9/13 before the quiz on the scientific method.
Assignment to complete at home REVIEW for Scientific Method Quiz. Be sure your foldable is complete to turn in on Monday before the quiz. Have a fun weekend!
