What is Digital Citizenship? Digital citizenship is defined as the norms of appropriate, responsible behavior with regard to technology use. Dr. Riddle Who is a good Digital Citizen? “...someone who is able to think critically about the ethical opportunities and challenges of the “digital world” and make safe, respectful, and responsible choices”.

Nine Elements of Digital Citizenship Access - full electronic participation in society Commerce – electronic buying and selling of goods Literacy – teaching and learning about use of technology Etiquette – electronic conduct Communication - electronic exchange of information Law – responsibility for actions Rights and Responsibilities – freedoms extended to everyone Health and Wellness – physical and psychological well being Security – electronic self-protection

Why Digital Citizenship O Not just about E-Rate O Provide training with the tools… O Can’t just rely on the AUP O Temper Words O Did you say that? … What about tone? O Immerse learning into their world O This is how they communicate, create… O Prepare for future …but also be aware of the pitfalls and how to respond
