B is For Bob Feller 1.Bob Feller played in major league baseball and was inducted into the hall of fame. 2.Bob Feller played for the Cleveland Indians and he pitched the fastest ball in history and it went 107 MPH.

C is for corn 1.Corn is Iowa's number 1 crop. 2.Corn can be anyone's number one crop but Iowa is known for it.

D is for Des Moines Des Moines was founded in 1843 and incorporated as a city in Des Moines is the capital of Iowa.

E is for Eastern Goldfinch Iowa designated the eastern goldfinch as the official state bird in Also called American goldfinch or wild canary also called American goldfinch or wild canary, the eastern goldfinch is found throughout Iowa and often stays through the winter months.

F is for flag 1.Iowa was almost 75 years old when our state flag was adopted. On the flag the eagle is biting on to a banner that says our Iowa motto; our liberties we prize and our rights we will maintain.

G is for geode The Geode was designated the official rock of Iowa in 1967 to promote tourism in the state. The Latin word "geodes" means earthlike, and geodes are shaped like the earth with a hard outer shell that when cut reveals a core of sparkling mineral crystals (usually quartz and calcite).

H is for Hawkeye state Iowa is called The Hawkeye State as a tribute to chief Black Hawk, leader of the Sauk Indians (relocated to Iowa after unsuccessful fighting of settlers). Also called The Corn State (90 percent of the land in Iowa is devoted to agriculture).

I is for Iowa State Fair The first Iowa State Fair was staged in Fairfield October 25–27, 1854, with a budget of $323. The Fair was held again in Fairfield in 1855, but for the next several years, the Fair moved from town to town, remaining mostly in eastern Iowa.

J is for John Wayne Marion Mitchell Morrison (born Marion Robert Morrison; May 26, 1907 – June 11, 1979), better known by his stage name John Wayne, Wayne was born in Winterset, Iowa but his family relocated to the greater Los Angeles area when he was four years of age.

K is for Keokuk. The city is named after the Sauk chief Keokuk, who is thought to be buried in Rand Park. Keokuk, along with the city of Fort Madison is a principal city of the Fort Madison– Keokuk Metropolitan Statistical Area, which includes all of Lee County, Iowa and Clark County Missouri.

L is for Lee county Unlike most counties nationwide (including all other counties in Iowa), Lee has two county seats— Fort Madison and Keokuk. The latter was established in 1847 when disagreements led to a second court jurisdiction.

M is for Mississippi River The Mississippi River is the largest river system in North America. The Mississippi River separates the state of Nebraska and the state of Iowa.

O is for Oak Tree The Oak Tree is Iowa's state tree. Iowa designated the oak as the official state tree in 1961.

P is for Pottawattamie County Pottawattamie County is a county located in the U.S. state of Iowa. The population was 93,158 in the 2010 census, an increase from 87,704 in the 2000 census.

Q is for Quakers The Quakers refused the law. The Quakers dressed different than everybody else.

R is for Robert Lucus Robert Lucus was the first governor of Iowa. He only got paid cents a half a month.

S is for Steamboats A steamboat or steamship, sometimes called a steamer, is a ship in which the primary method of propulsion is steam power, typically driving propellers or paddlewheels. Steamboats usually traveled through Iowa.

T is for Tobacco Tobacco is an agricultural product processed from the leaves of plants in the genus Nicotine. Tobacco was originally found in Iowa.

U is for Union Pacific Railroad The Union Pacific railroad originally started in Iowa. The Union Pacific runs all through the United States.

V is for Villisca Axe Murder The Villisca Axe Murders occurred in June 1912 in the southwestern Iowa town of Villisca. All eight victims, including six children severe head wounds all from an axe.

W is for Wild Rose The wild rose was adopted as the state flower of Iowa in Wild roses bloom from June through late summer throughout Iowa the petals come in varying shades of pink, with yellow stamens decorating the flower's center.

X is for X-ray The x-ray was accidently discovered in Iowa. The x-ray was discovered by a German man.

Y is for Yale Yale is a city in Guthrie County, Iowa, United States. he population was 246 in the 2010 census, a decline from 287 in 2000 census.

Z is for Blank Park Zoo Blank Park Zoo is a zoo on the south side of Des Moines, Iowa near Fort Des Moines. It is one of Iowa's biggest zoos.
