Presentation transcript:

 Verse 83. Supplication of Prophet Ibrahim (pbuh).  What is “Hukman”? It is the correct power of decision in all matters. It also refers to knowledge, understanding and wisdom. Here it refers to that special quality that is granted to all prophets.  Note how after praising Allah (swt) makes a du’a and asks for two things. “Hukman” and company of righteous. These are the two things which make a person successful in this world and in the hereafter.  Prophet Ibrahim was leaving his home and needed wisdom so that he could see things as they were. The Prophet (pbuh) used to make a similar du’a “Allahumma arinee haqeeqatul ash-ya kam he-ya.” O Allah show me the reality of things as they are.  Many times there are things that are useless and they appear useful to us. In the same way there are unimportant things that appear important to us. An intelligent person is one who is able to judge the reality of a thing and does not get deceived.

 There are many people who invest their time, skills, money, efforts into things that will have no rewards for them in the hereafter.  Taking the right decision at the right time is wisdom.  Decision (Hukman) in this verse does not mean a decision made by a judge, it is the decisions we make in our day to day matters.  Company of the righteous of the people. It is very important to have good friends. sometimes we decide something and then we have foolish people around us who give us a bad advice about our decision. Later we regret. One should keep in mind that wrong decisions can lead us to Jahannum. Also one cannot do good deeds if one keeps a bad company.  Whom do we take as a good friend? One who fulfills our desires. We sometimes fool ourselves by believing that our friendship is for Allah’s sake when in reality it is not. The proof is that we do not share any good works with them.

 The du’a in verse 84 means that Prophet Ibrahim prayed that the reward for all his good deeds may not end with him but continue even after he is dead.  “Lisaana sidqin” means true mention or honorable mention. That he be remembered as one who was truthful. The word “lisaan” which means tongue, here stands for description and for him (meaning Ibrahim himself). Prophet Ibrahim asks for good reputation for himself in this du’a. In Al Baqarah, verse , Prophet Ibrahim made another du’a of a similar kind. More du’as are in Surah Ya sin, verse 12 and Surah Al Furqan, verse 74.  Why did Prophet Ibrahim make this du’a? He made this du’a for the success of his mission (da’wah) for which he made so many sacrifices in his life.  Note what kind of du’a the Prophet is making and how limited are the du’as that we make!

 The du’a of Ibrahim for good reputation is not to be famous. It is to gain rewards and Allah’s pleasure in the hereafter. It is so that people may follow him in all the good things he used to do.  The Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “Two wolves free among sheep are no more destructive to them than a man’s desire for wealth and honour is to his religion.” [Jami At-Tirmidhi]  Why is the word “waratha “ (inheritors) used in verse 85? This is because that is the actual place for humans. Prophet Adam (pbuh) was sent to Jannah first. But Jannah is only for humans who are worthy of it.  All du’as made by Prophet Ibrahim were accepted by Allah (swt). A clear proof of this is his du’a in verse 84. All religions, Judaism, Christianity, and others respect Ibrahim and claim to be following him even if their ways are contrary to what Prophet Ibrahim preached. It is only the Muslims who follow the ways of Prophet Ibrahim in the right manner.
