Grammar Review Underline the subject, verb, and direct object in the sentence below: I like the book. I like the book.

The Verb Gustar 1. The word “like” does not exist in Spanish. 2. The infinitive “gustar” means “to please” and replaces “to like”. 3. “I like the book.” and “The book pleases me.” mean the same thing. They are expressing the same idea.

***4. The Flipper Rule: ALL OBJECT PRONOUNS COME BEFORE THE VERB.**** El libro gusta me. New sentence is going to be: El libro me gusta.

5. Many Spanish people will say: “Me gusta el libro.” Know that: “Me gusta el libro” & “El libro me gusta” mean the same thing. They are interchangeable.

6. The verb “gustar” is conjugated to agree with the subject of the sentence. El libro me gusta. Los libros me gustan. If the subject is singular the verb will take 3 rd person singular form. If the subject is plural the verb will take 3 rd person plural form.
