Key Concepts: Asepsis: Human Animal

Example of How to Clip and Scrub: w&list=PLXFPJ1Xl2hkWiSfBuy6EsUo9a8l4bd3M e

Step #1: Clip the Hair Activity: 1.Get a partner, a pair of clippers with a #40 or #50 blade and tape 2.Identify your surgical site 3.Practice laying the clipper blade flat against the skin and clipping against the lay of the hair 4.Now pretend to vacuum up the clipped hair

Step #2 Scrub the Surgical Site With your partner: Obtain a: Page protector White board marker Scrub Alcohol spray bottle.

Now Scrub: 1.Outline your surgical site with the whiteboard marker- your incision site is already on your sheet 2.Look at your watch- you need 5 minutes contact time with the scrub on the skin 3.Scrub your site in a bulls eye manner, never going from the outside back into the middle, repeating a minimum of 3 times. 4.If the scrub comes off clean on the 3 rd scrub, you are done but need to be sure you wait 5 minutes before rinsing 5.Rinse the site with the alcohol spray bottle

Practice! Complete this skill once with a partner, then get your task book out and get your first check off… Continue practicing and complete your 2 student check offs.

Review: What blade do we need to clip with for a surgical clip? How long does scrub need to stay on the skin? What is the final step for sterilization? NOW CORRECT YOUR ANTICIPATION GUIDES AND TURN THEM IN TO THE TURN IN BIN!
