Standard 4 – Resources and Support Systems Indicator 4.3 The Department of Safety and Security will be focusing on the Standard 4 – Resources and Support Systems Indicator 4.3 The schools/system maintains facilities, services and equipment to provide a safe and healthy environment for all students and staff. The department of Safety and Security will focus on Level 4 for school/system leaders to have adopted or collaboratively created a clear definition and expectations for maintaining school safety and a healthy environment and have shared these definitions and expectations with all stake holders. All school/system personnel as well as students are accountable for maintaining these safe expectations. There is continuous improvement to safety plans so that they can be implemented for safer schools/system. The results of improvement efforts are systematically evaluated regularly.

Schools in Colorado and Indiana Schools have revised, reinvented, and implemented new standards for school safety. Following are some of the changes that have occurred or are in process: SRP-Standard Response Protocol LOCKOUT, LOCKDOWN, EVACUATE, SHELTER School Resource Officers Entry ways into schools using a Sally port system Entry buzzers/button and cameras to school Easier access for first responders to gain entry into schools and buildings School audits and safety assessments Training using table top exercises Training on bullying Training for mental health first responders Training on crisis and threat assessments

State of Indiana announces school safety grants CPCSC Awarded 2X A. Indiana FY 2014 & 2015 IDHS Secured School Safety Grant 1. $50,000 – ADM of 1000 or more 2. $35,000 – ADM of less 1000 B. The FY 2014 & 2015 IDHS Secured School Safety Grant Program 1. Dedicated State grant funding to provide matching grants for school safety. a.
