General statistics 62 prescriptions during the period (9 prescriptors) Average 6 prescription/day (3 to 7) 22% in children (14 prescriptions, average 4.5 years) 50% ENT infections (Pharyngitis/Tonsilitis) 18% Urine infections 16% Bronchitis / Pneumonia 1/3 of the prescriptions: Augmentin

Augmentin indications (Adult) Otitis in adult. Acute maxillar Sinusitis Suinfected bronchitis (patients at risk) CODP Exacerbations Acute Pneumonia (patient at risk) Acute Cystitis, uncomplicated cystitis and uncomplicated pyelonephritis Upper gynecological tract infections Stomatologic infections (abces, phlegmons, cellulites)

Augmentin indications (chlidren) Acute otitis in young children, recurrent otitis Sinusitis Lower respiratory tract infection (30 month to 5 years) Surinfection of chronic bronchopneumonia Urine tract infection except prostatitis Severe stomatological infections (abcès, phlegmons, cellulites, parodontites)

Ciprofloxacine indications Urine tract infections Intestinal infections Hepato-biliaire infections Skin & Bone-joint infections (when staph. suspected) Chronic sinusitis, Chronic otitis Bronchitis in patients at risk (when BG- is suspected, but Quinolones not active on pneumococcus) Contraindication: Child during growth period

Azithromycine: Indications Tonsilitis due to Streptocoque A (alternative if allergy to amoxcicilline) Acute surinfected bronchitis COPD exacerbation Infections in stomatology (abces, phlegmon, cellulitis)

Conclusion A large use of Augmentin, most of the time inappropriate. An abuse to treat pharyngitis with antibiotics (most of the time due to virus) This study shows the importance of evaluation in order to improve our management of common infectious diseases
