Cheerleading Parent Meeting 2012 – 2013 Cheer Season

Please make sure we have your address so we can invite you to the LMS Cheer Wiki Site. School Website: C2C for sporting schedules Cheerleading Contacts  Rebekah G. Lloyd H: (352)  Reba Evans-Spivey cell: (352)

Cheerleader SOPs  M.I.L.C-motivate, inspire, lead, cheer!!!  ROAR Behavior-Do what is right! *Someone is always watching.  Listen and follow the coaches’/captains directions.  Attendance is mandatory.  On time is 10 minutes early.  Always be ready to cheer!  Participate in every fundraiser.

GPA- STUDENT athletes  You must have and maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or greater in order to participate in cheerleading.  Failure to do so will result in automatic dismissal from the squad.  Parents we realize that your expectations may not be the same- we just ask for some advance notice if you are considering pulling your child from cheer. Our preference no D’s or F’s.  Progress reports will be requested as needed to make sure students are not failing to meet the grade requirement.  Available tutoring will be mandatory for cheerleaders who are falling close to the cut off.

Physical and Insurance  All cheerleaders must have a current physical exam and medical insurance on file.  It is your responsibility to know when your physical expires- 1 year from date of completion.  It is your responsibility to notify the office of any change in insurance.

Games and Practices  You will be required to cheer all football games and all basketball games (unless it is an emergency there will be no exceptions).  You are required to be at all cheer practices. Two times a week during seasons 1 time a week out of season  Every day when prepping for competition!

Fundraisers  As a cheerleader, you will be asked to participate in every fundraiser.  You are responsible for all monies collected for fundraisers.  What you lose, you are responsible for.

Rules  You must read and abide by all the rules set forth in the cheerleading rule packet.  Parents and cheerleaders are asked to sign acknowledging rules because as Coaches we are only half the support system of our cheerleaders.

Attendance  All football games and all home basketball games  Cheerleaders must stay after school for all away football games, bring a bag dinner, & must report at 5:00pm for all home games.  Home BB games are right after school  Cheerleading season is from tryouts through BASKETBALL SEASON (May-March).  We like to have one parent volunteer per event, if you are interested in signing up to be that parent please let us know.

Absences  Coaches must be notified in person, or by phone if you will not be at a scheduled game or practice. DO NOT tell another cheerleader to notify your coach for you.  To be considered excused the absence must meet the LMS attendance policy.  All other absences must be pre-approved at least two days in advance.  This also applies to leaving practice early.  Leaving practice or a game early for other practices or games outside of LMS will not be excused.

Competition  We will compete so girls should plan on deciding IF they will compete OR participate in another sport  Cheerleaders may participate in one other sport during the cheer season and still maintain a presence on the squad  If the sport you choose conflicts with competitive practice you will be required to attend mandatory Saturday practices. TBA

Dress Code for Practice  Shorts with sliders under  T-shirt  cheer shoes & socks  Part of cheerleading package  Hair must be out of the face in a ponytail  No:  Jewelry  chewing gum  Fingernail polish  Fake fingernails  Undergarments showing in any way

Dress Code for Games or Performances  Proper Uniform with poms  Light makeup- if any *We will do all-star makeup for one home football game  No:  Jewelry  chewing gum  Fingernail polish  Fake fingernails  Undergarments showing  Hair must be up in a ponytail with ribbon

Uniforms  Uniforms will stay at LMS.  You will be sized & will not be allowed to switch sizes without the a Coach’s consent  When performances are over uniforms will be returned inside out for washing.  A Coach must sign that you have retuned the uniform on the uniform log!!!  If you lose or damage any of your cheer equipment / uniforms, you will be required to replace them.

Demerits  Demerits will be issued for poor behavior. Accumulating 50 demerits will result in dismissal from the squad. Please see handout.  Teachers & Staff at LMS continually look to cheerleaders to be a ROAR role model for the LMS student body. If a Coach gets a positive or comment expect a positive referral but if negative feedback comes in expect demerits.

Reasons for Dismissal  Any cheerleader involved in any of the following activities on or off school campus will result in suspension or dismissal from the team: 1. Any illegal activity 2. Use or possession of alcohol, tobacco, or illegal drugs. 3. Gross misconduct or excessive violation of school rules 4. Repeated disrespect or insubordination 5. Failure to attend practices 6. Any action which reflects negatively on the team 7. More than one suspension from a game can result in dismissal from the squad 8. Cheerleaders under suspension are still required to dress out and sit with the team through performances.
