The Role of CTE in American High Schools HOW ARE SEQUENCE OF COURSES & EXPECTATIONS PRESENTED BY CASE WORKERS TO CONSOLERS TO STUDENTS AND IN IEP MEETINGS?

Federal Legislation Goals for CTE Occupational sequence of course that integrate rigorous academic courses as preparation for postsecondary education or full-time employment.

Various Curriculum in Electives and CTE - Program of Studies Traditional Career Prep for full-time, entry level position CTE Academic Focus, limited field experience ACA Integrate Academic & Career Preparation CTE/ACA

Are students being missed placed? NCES reported that special needs students (disable, at-risk or LEP) are over-represented in CTE programs. Most times, case workers may enroll students into the upper level course to give the student career experience, skipping the academic – introduction information. CTE can’t be looked upon as a school-to-work transition program, unless it was set-up with that initiation.

Education Equity We must ensure a relevant and effective education experience for all students who are work bound or college bound so how do we promote academic achievement? How do we provide education equity so our CTE programs are respected and the course sequence is honored. How do we ensure counselor, case workers and administration doesn’t view our course as a source of an elective credit.
