Linkage and Gene maps Lecture 11-5

Gene linkage What happens to genes located on the same chromosome? Genes tend to be linked together.

Genetic diversity Crossing over sometimes separates genes on the same chromosome. This helps generate genetic diversity.

Unlocking gene location The farther apart 2 genes are on a chromosome, the MORE likely they are to cross over. The closer together, the LESS likely.

Copyright Pearson Prentice Hall By analyzing crossing-over frequency, the locations of genes on each chromosome were found.
