Where do Avocados Come From? Mexico and Central American countries are the origin of avocado, wild avocados can still be found in rainforests. Mexico is the leading producer of avocado by far, followed by Chile and Indonesia. USA was fourth in production (2009) San Diego County grows almost half of all the avocados produced in the US, however this is declining due to high water prices. The rest of the production is from Ventura, Santa Barbara, Riverside and San Luis Obispo counties.
