-There are more than 900,000 sworn law enforcement officers now serving in the United States, which is the highest figure ever. Only about 12 percent of those are female!

-Enforce laws -Patrol assigned areas -Respond to emergency & non-emergency calls -Conduct traffics stops & issue citations -Obtain warrants & arrest suspects

-”Police and detective work can be physically demanding, stressful, and dangerous.” -”Police and sheriff’s patrol officers have one of the highest rates of injuries and illnesses of all occupations.”

-Must have at least a high school diploma or GED -Must graduate from a police academy of training -Are highly encouraged to take law enforcement courses

-”Some police departments have cadet programs for people interested in a career in law enforcement who do not yet meet age requirements for becoming an officer. These cadets do clerical work and attend classes until they reach the minimum age requirement and can apply for a position with the regular force.”
