CAUSE- HOUSTON WANTED TO JOIN THE U.S.EFFECT- NO ANSWER In Houston’s first term he tried to get Texas into the U.S., he sent in a request, but to no avail. Texas was not able to join the Union at the time.
CAUSE- LAMAR IS ELECTED Lamar was more focused on terminating the natives, and rebuilding Texas more than joining the Union. EFFECT- THE QUEST FOR ANNEXATION IS DELAYED Lamar seriously improves education, but in his term he raised debt and conflicts with the natives. Texas was not any closer to being a state.
CAUSE- TEXANS WANT TO BE AMERICANS Houston was mainly re- elected for the cause that everyone agreed on the idea of becoming a state. This helped get Houston re- elected because he gave Texas a better shot at getting annexed than anyone else. EFFECTS- TEXAS ALMOST REACHES ANNEXATION
