ALRDC Seminar New and Novel Artificial Lift Technologies ConocoPhillips, Houston, Texas May 14, ½” Inverse Gas Lift System and Dual Flow Hanger Norman Strachan; Jerry Sutton; Brian Marr, Weatherford Presented by: Norman Strachan, Global Product Manager, Aberdeen

Contents Overview of an IGLS. Components of a system. Description of new technology. Development status. Industry support needed. May 14th, 2014 ALRDC Seminar, New and Novel Artificial Lift Technologies, ConocoPhillips, Houston, Texas 2

Overview of IGLS IGLS provides retrofit gas injection via an insert string. –Insert string can be Coiled Tubing or Macaroni String. –Production via annulus between insert string and existing tubing. –Gas tight casing not required. –Suitable for mono-bore and cemented completions. –Full well depth injection possible. –Installed using traditional intervention techniques. –Utilises existing tree with new intermediate spool. –Maintains fully functional master valves and SCSSV. –Fully removable with no effect on original completion. May 14, ALRDC Seminar for New or Novel Artificial Lift Technologies, Houston, Texas 3

Gas Injection valve and Coiled Tubing Dual Flow Safety Valve Suspension Hanger / Dual Flow Hanger Seal Stinger and Jointed Pipe Concentric HangerIntermediate Spool IGLS Components – Bottom up May 14, ALRDC Seminar for New or Novel Artificial Lift Technologies, Houston, Texas 4

Existing Sizes of DFSV May 14, ALRDC Seminar for New or Novel Artificial Lift Technologies, Houston, Texas 5 Tubing SizeSeal Bore 4 ½” ½” ”

Description of New Technology Propose 2 new technology developments that work hand in hand. –Develop a 3 ½” Dual Flow Safety Valve. New size to serve a wider market. Suggest 2.750” and 2.812” SSV Seal bores initially. –Advance the hanger design Develop a Dual Flow Hanger (DFH) –Maximise Flow areas. –Reduce system costs. –Simplify deployment. –Complete system review and optimisation Hanging capacity, Temperature, Flow areas (injection to production ratio) etc. May 14, ALRDC Seminar for New or Novel Artificial Lift Technologies, Houston, Texas 6

Development Status Conceptual design complete on both developments. To date systems have been a client specific design requiring extensive eng. resources for each project. Optimisation and standardisation of design required. May 14, ALRDC Seminar for New or Novel Artificial Lift Technologies, Houston, Texas 7

3-1/2” DFSV Concept OD 2.740”. Inner bore ID 0.75”?. Pressure rating 5000psi (Is this required). Temperature rating 135C or higher? Self Equalising. Damaged Seal Bore option? May 14, ALRDC Seminar for New or Novel Artificial Lift Technologies, Houston, Texas 8

Dual Flow Hanger Nipple types common to all operators. –Halliburton –Baker –Camco/Schlumberger No-Go and Selective. Can we get the most common 2 or 3 lock types. Damaged Seal Bore option? May 14, ALRDC Seminar for New or Novel Artificial Lift Technologies, Houston, Texas 9

What Support is Needed from Industry? Gauging of market potential and industry needs. Input on size standardization. Optimisation of production and injection paths. Partnerships to ensure final product is what the industry requires. R&D funding. Field trials. May 14, ALRDC Seminar for New or Novel Artificial Lift Technologies, Houston, Texas 10

R&D Funding and Field Trials Are there any Operators willing to help develop and fund this project. The more participants the wider the cost would be spread. Additionally this would allow standardisation of design and dimensions that would be accepted by all. No one wants to be the first. Are there clients willing to offer a well for trial. This would then give Operators additional information for justification. May 14, ALRDC Seminar for New or Novel Artificial Lift Technologies, Houston, Texas 11
