Agenda ST vs SL differences Super Speed models ST-20Y/ST-30Y DS-30

Automatic Tool Pre-Setter Automatic or manual mode IPS (Intuitive Probing System) based interface for user-friendly operation. The probe can be activated thru the NC program for in-process tool wear adjustment and for tool breakage detection. Everyday production and precision can be improved with the automation of setups and wear adjustments.

Automatic Tool Pre-setter ATP page. Prompts user for necessary inputs. Will send code to MDI.

IPS Live Image Graphical representation of the machining process. Has the capability to show main spindle, second spindle and tail stock simulations.

Live Tool Drive Previous Live Tool drive units were belt driven and only 5 HP. Current production is all gear driven. 7.5 HP motor is standard (was LT-HT option).

Y-axis Details Is Y-axis an option? NO They are their own models. What Y-axis models are available? ST-20Y ST-20SSY ST-30Y ST-30SSY DS-30Y DS-30SSY

Y-axis Details What is Y-axis? A plane perpendicular to X-axis and Z-axis What does Y-axis do? Provides interpolated motion for OFF center feature machining on G17 and G19 planes. Y-axis motion is achieved by interpolation of X-axis and a VIRTUAL horizontal axis.

Y-axis Details Y-axis saddle between wedge and Z-axis. Same saddle between ST-20Y and ST-30Y

Y-axis Details OK – What are the G17 and G19 planes?

Y-axis Details Is Live Tooling Standard on Y-axis models? YES What does Live-Tooling include? C-axis (Main Spindle Interpolated Motion) Positioning Accuracy (+/- 0.01 Degrees) 5 Hp motor (Current Design) 365mm Diameter Brake Disk 4,448 N Clamping Force Face Mounted Heads (Radial and Axial) 1 Each Radial and Axial Milling Heads (Except HAE region) 3000 RPM 7.5 Hp Standard (Current Design) 22Nm Peak – 8.5Nm Continous VDI40 Standard Size Shank 117.5mm Standard Coupling Length (ST/DS models)

Y-axis Details +/- 50mm axis travel What are the specifications for the Y-axis? +/- 50mm axis travel 50mm above and below spindle centerline 18 m/min Rapids Max Thrust 1,738N +/- 0,005mm Positioning +/- 0,003mm Repeatability

Y-axis Details OPERATION and PROGRAMMING: Can I use canned cycles with the Y-axis? Yes. It is possible the use canned cycles on a Haas Y-axis Lathe. Radial canned Cycles – G19 Plane: G75 (Grooving and Drilling Cycle) G195 ( Right Hand - Live Tool Radial Tapping) G196 ( Left hand - Live Tool Radial Tapping ) Axial canned Cycles – G17 Plane: Drilling Cycles: G74, G81, G82, G83 Boring Cycles: G85, G89 Tapping: G95 and G186

Y-axis Details OPERATION and PROGRAMMING: Updated Radial Canned Cycles: * Next software Release: G241 Radial Drill Canned Cycle   G242 Radial Spot Drill Canned Cycle   G243 Radial Normal Peck Drilling Canned Cycle    G245 Radial Boring Canned Cycle   G249 Radial Bore and Dwell Canned Cycle

Y-axis Details OPERATION and PROGRAMMING: What are the most important things to consider when planning a set-up and program of a part? Work Piece Diameter Tool extension from holder (radial) Required Y-axis travel from centerline All points mentioned above work with or against each other when planning out a JOB. Careful consideration of the Y-axis envelope must be taken

SYNCHRONOUS CONTROL WHAT ARE THE G-CODES FOR SPINDLE SYNCHRONIZATION? FANCY TERMINOLOGY FOR: SPINDLE SYNCHRONIZATION WHAT ARE THE G-CODES FOR SPINDLE SYNCHRONIZATION? G199 - ENGAGE SPINDLE SYNCHRONOUS CONTROL (GROUP 0) G198 - DISENGAGE SPINDLE SYNCHRONOUS CONTROL (GROUP 0) LIMITED TO 3400 RPM BY PARAMETER 854 WHAT HAPPENS ONCE SPINDLES ARE ENGAGED AND SYNCHRONIZED? BOTH SPINDLES ACCELERATE AT THE SAME SPEED (G96) BOTH SPINDLES DECCELERATE AT THE SAME SPEED (G96) BOTH SPINDLES MAINTAIN COMMANDED SPEEDS AT ALL TIMES

SYNCHRONOUS CONTROL WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF SPINDLE SYNCHRONIZATION? 1) ALLOWS FOR ON-THE-FLY (WITHOUT SPINDLES AT FULL SPEED) PASSING OF PARTS FROM ONE SPINDLE TO THE OTHER IN EITHER DIRECTION 2) ALLOWS FOR CLAMPING OF PARTS WITH BOTH CHUCKS OR COLLETS FOR INCREASED RIGIDITY AND SUPPORT. SIMILAR TO BETWEEN CENTER TURNING BUT WITH GREATER BENEFITS. 3) DONE-IN-ONE PART MACHINING. MINIMIZE PART HANDLING AND MULTIPLE SET UPS. CYCLE TIME REDUCTION.
