1/10Mikey Davis30 August 2013 Multi-point Sample Averaging

Introduction I’ve had a look at sample point averaging hoping to address this issue once and for all There are several possible methods for sample averaging depending on what you want to do Have tried a no of different types to try and compare answers 2/10Mikey Davis30 August 2013

Simple Average This is the most basic thing you could do I think this is what Colin and Phil wanted to see Procedure: 1.Pick a number of sample points 2.Do a calibration for each point 3.Analyse the data at each sample point 4.Sum the position at each point and divide by the number to get average 3/10Mikey Davis30 August 2013

“My” Average Another variation on averaging What Young Im told me to do (I think) Procedure: 1.Pick a number of sample points 2.Add the I and Q signals for each sample point 3.Pick a single reference cavity point 4.Calibrate for the summed signals and the charge 4/10Mikey Davis30 August 2013

“Complete” Average Similar to the first technique Less information Procedure: 1.Pick a number of sample points 2.Add the I and Q signals for each sample point 3.Add the reference signals for each sample point 4.Calibrate for the summed signals and the summed charge 5/10Mikey Davis30 August 2013

Simple Average 6/10Mikey Davis30 August 2013

Simple Average (Zoomed) 7/10Mikey Davis30 August 2013

My Average (Zoomed) 8/10Mikey Davis30 August 2013

Complete Average (Zoomed) 9/10Mikey Davis30 August 2013

Conclusions These all improve things a little bit All give vaguely similar results Computationally “my” method is slightly quicker – Not really enough of an issue to worry about here – Going forward something to consider re firmware? 10/10Mikey Davis30 August 2013
