Heredity Shelbi Smith

Content Area: Science Grade Level: 5 th Summary: The purpose of this power point so you can gain more knowledge about heredity. Objective: Given the website students will be able to recognize what gene has been passed from parent to offspring by answering the questions on the powerpoint. Standard: GLE Describe how genetic information is passed from parents to offspring during reproduction. SPI Recognize that information is passed from parent to offspring during reproduction. Accomplishment: Develop a sense what heredity is and able to recognize what gene is passed down to offspring.

 Heredity is a characteristic that is passed down from parent to offspring during reproduction.  The characteristics does not always show up directly after birth some takes time.  The characteristics does always have to be physical. For example a lioness has two boy cubs one of the cubs could be a natural leader while the other cub could follow until he matures enough to take over his own pride.

 Click the link to play the game to how heredity works. html  Now you have an idea how heredity works. Now go and answer the questions on the next couple of slides.

What did the puppies inherit from its mother? A. Spots B. Color C. Neither A nor B

GREAT JOB YOU REALLY TOOK NOTICE OF THE DOGS!!!!

QUESTION 2 What does one tiger cub inherit from its mother that the other cub does not? A. Height B. Color C. Stripes

CONGRAULATIONS!!! THAT ONE WAS A TOUGH ONE BUT YOU FIGURED IT OUT!!!!!!

YOU NOW KNOW WHAT HEREDITY IS AND HOW IT GETS PASSED DOWN FROM PARENT TO OFFSPRING. ALSO THAT NOT ALL OFFSPRINGS RECEIVE THE SAME THING.

OOPS SEEMS LIKE YOU DID NOT LOOK CLOSELY AT THE PUPPIES AND THEIR MOTHER WELL. GO BACK AND REREAD AND TRY AGAIN.

WHOA YOU DID NOT LOOK AT THE PICTURES AND READ THE QUESTION WELL ENOUGH. GO BACK AND TRY AGAIN.
