amphibian -an animal that begins life in the water and moves onto land as an adult Frogs are amphibians because they begin life in the water and later move to land.

gills -a body part found in fish and young amphibians that takes in oxygen from the water When frogs are young they breathe from gills; later they have lungs and their gills disappear.
