Flow Map

2000(ish) B.C. Judaism begins Abraham is told by God to move from Ur, Mesopotamia, to Canaan. He does. His descendants are known as Jews. Abraham is famous for nearly sacrificing his son, Isaac.

586 B.C. Babylonians destroy the Jewish temple The Jews are exiled to Babylon Exile – to be forcibly removed The first temple was built by King Solomon, famous for his wisdom.

536ish B.C. The Jews return to Canaan The temple is rebuilt The second temple lasted almost 600 years.

8-4 B.C. A Jewish boy named Jesus is born in Bethlehem The story of Jesus is told in the four gospels in the Christian Bible.

Early 30s A.D. Jesus travels around Palestine, preaching love and forgiveness of sins and performing miracles. "You have heard that it was said, 'Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.‘ But I tell you, Do not resist an evil person. If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. And if someone wants to sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well. If someone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles. Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you.

33 A.D. Jesus is and arrested and killed because of his message. According to his disciples (followers), he was raised from the dead. This started the religion of Christianity. Christ is Greek for messiah, or savior.

66 A.D. Jews revolt against Roman rulers The Second temple is destroyed and the Jews and Christians spread through the world. The temple still hasn’t been rebuilt – but Judaism didn’t die. Jews still worship through prayer, study, and good deeds.

A.D. 570 Muhammad is born in Mecca. *image of Muhammad not available. Mecca is the holiest city in the religion of Islam.

A.D. 610 Muhammad hears a command from the angel Gabriel and spends 22 years writing the Qur’an The Qur’an is the holy book of Muslims.
